and the only way to get at 300/300 was to have the ethernet (Cat-6 would do it) connected and enabled. and, replacing the old Rev.G Actiontec with the G3100 Quantum modem, it was still not getting anything better than 100/100 as it was still over coaxial - FiOS office had flipped the speed on their end to the new 300/300 provisioning on the early morning of the self-install Not surprised. of flat Cat-7 wiring that's easier to nail - an hour's worth of routing it along the walls & up along the stairs from the basement to the 1/F.īaseline, the original speed was just bad by today's standard 50/50 that was just not near the provisioned upload. Photos of what was in that house, what changed & results of new speed testing - 300/300 achieved, but, not without running our own ethernet cable - used 100 ft. Long story short, revised order 'fixed' it somewhat, new price is $148 with a $10 auto-pay discount, G3100 modem as rental being shipped out and no installation visit/fees or upgrade charge, and it is a self-install, easy. Chat online again with a live agent but couldn't resolve it, directed to call to speak and refer to the order #, notes on the account. Order was in process & the 2nd new bill estimates was higher at over $180, wow - what happened.

ouch !!Ībout 2 weeks ago, I got on it and put together online order to 300/300 speed, changed the TV package & keep the digital phone (they do NOT want to drop or move the line, keeping the number, etc.) A service visit by a tech is usually required for such upgrade (as I did ours in the old house several years ago) to install a newer ONT, ethernet run to the newer modem & configure it, etc. This has been on 50/50 Triple Play for years, out-of-contract and never upgraded to faster, higher speed, still on coaxial with MOCA - with a grandfathered Extreme TV package and just 1 DVR box and Actiontec Rev.G modem (which is being returned, as requested, to VZ) - paying almost $240 per month. Originally installed (still there today) indoors in the basement of a 2 family house is the Alcatel-Lucent 1-211M-H GPON ONT (Gigabit capable ?) way back, maybe more than 10 years ago in the enclosure w battery backup. leaving the (brother-in-law's) house with just broadband & digital phone service next month. Next, going to cancel TV service entirely & return the old TV-DVR box rental and stream instead. I am happy (for now) that new 300/300 speed is up & running great. This is mostly informational for others in NYC area looking to upgrade their existing installed FiOS service from 50/50 or under 100/100 now to 300/300 or higher tier speed - originally scheduled a tech visit online to do the upgrade last Friday (1st available appointment for about 10 days later) - after 2 'live chat' to switch the old Triple Play bundle to Mix-n-Match, changing the package mix & lowered the high, out of contract price.
